Turkish Grammar - Present Tense Negative Form

To make a verb negative in Turkish we use the suffixes

-me
-ma

Gel : come / Gelme :Don’t come
Kal : stay / Kalma : Don’t stay

For present tense
The rule is

verb +m(e)+ yor + possession

The “e” in the -me changes acording to the
vowel harmony.

Gel : Come / Gelmek : To come
gel+m(i)+yor+um —> I am not coming
gel+m(i)+yor+sun —> You are not coming (Singular)
gel+m(i)+yor —> He/She/It is not coming.

gel+m(i)+yor+uz —> We are not coming
gel+m(i)+yor+sunuz —> You are not coming (Plural)
gel+m(i)+yor+lar —> They are not coming

Kal : stay / Kalmak : To stay
kal+m(ı)+yor+um —> I am not staying
kal+m(ı)+yor+sun —> You are not staying (Singular.)
kal+m(ı)+yor —> He/She/It is not staying

kal+m(ı)+yor+uz —> We are not staying
kal+m(ı)+yor+sunuz —> You are not staying (Plural)
kal+m(ı)+yor+lar —> They are not staying.

Koş : run / Koşmak : To run
koş+m(u)+yor+um —> I am not running
koş+m(u)+yor+sun —> You are not running (Singular)
koş+m(u)+yor —> He/She/It is not running

koş+m(u)+yor+uz —> We are not running
koş+m(u)+yor+sunuz —> You are not running (Plural)
koş+m(u)+yor+lar —> They are not running

Düşün : Think / Düşünmek : To Think

Düşün +m(ü)+yor+um —> I am not thinking
Düşün +m(ü)+yor+sun —> You are not thinking (Singular)
Düşün +m(ü)+yor —> He/She/It is not thinking

Düşün +m(ü)+yor+uz —> We are not thinking
Düşün +m(ü)+yor+sunuz —> You are not thinking (Plural)
Düşün +m(ü)+yor+lar —> They are not thinking

Sevmek: To love
Gezmek: To travel
Konuşmak : To speak
Gülmek : To laugh
